My First Employee!

I have taken business to a whole new level.  My first contracted employee!  Libby, my five year old daughter, accomplished her first pay as well.  She has been excitedly showing off her five dollar bill and explaining how she was an assistant to a photographer.  Libby’s spunk, while sometimes challenging to parent, has a very positive outlet in helping other kiddos to smile.  This sensitivity and connectedness she displays also makes her an exceptional big sister.  As business grows and I decide to bring more people along side of me, I have no doubt that Libby will be my most entertaining and sweet companion.  Our family loves to do more together, and I am thankful my children want to keep it that way!  For Christmas, her brother and she received their own digital cameras!  Maybe I'll post some of her pictures later.

Merry John Deere Christmas!

Merry Christmas from my family to all of yours!  In good ole Indiana, we celebrate Christmas John Deere style.  For the past month we've driven past these lights a hundred times - yes I realize that's a few times per day - and it feels like 99 of those times my children easily persuaded me to drive through so they could get a closer look.  It truly is one of my favorite parts of the holiday.  I happened to have my camera with me the other night and took some pictures to share with all of you.  These are just a few of roughly sixty different displays.  Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Blessed Opportunity!

As my photography business continues to boom and I meet other photographers in the area I realize a difference between myself and others.  Many start from the bottom and work their way up not knowing what to expect or even where to begin.  I, on the other hand, was fortunate enough to start at the top.

This past summer I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a week in Santa Barbara, California, with my new friend and one of the top wedding photographers in the world, David Jay.  Being able to spend a week with him to ask every question I could think of was definitely helpful, but nothing compared to the hands-on experience of shooting a wedding with him in Chicago on my way back home.  In just five years, DJ went from a budding photographer shooting a wedding for a friend to one of the top in the world.  He is truly amazing and I can honestly say that starting at the top next to him has allowed me to have the confidence and vision that I have today.

HORRAY!!! Today marks the first official full day of my new site brianmcguckin.com! Yesterday alone I had 354 views on my site. I'm so stoked! In celebration, I'm starting this blog to record the journey. I've had my own site running for a while, but with more and more weddings coming up I wanted to be able to allow my clients to have a more user-friendly place for their friends and families to visit. Postings on my blog may be a little random at times...but so is life!
